JCC in Manhattan's Response
In his JTA op-ed piece on March 30, 2011, the president of the JCC Association never addresses the partnerships and links to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and the JCC's roll in delegitimizing Israel: "Op-Ed: In-Fights Over Depictions of Israel, JCC Must Remain Big-Tent Institutions."
On January 6, 2011, Richard Allen, a member of the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, sent a letter with extensive supporting documentation to the JCC's board of directors. On January 10, 2011, Marti Meyerson and Alice Grottesman, Co-Presidents of the JCC in Manhattan, responded.
On February 8, 2011, in response to an article published in The Jewish Week (see "JCC Festival Accused of Hurting Israel" on the PRESS page), the co-presidents wrote a letter to the newspaper.
Sometime after February 1, 2011, when The Jewish Week shed light on this issue ("JCC Festival Accused of Hurting Israel"), the JCC in Manhattan removed from its Other Israel Film Festival website links to Mossawa Center and Adalah, two BDS-supporting organizations. While we're delighted that they did—it's a commendable first step—they now need to de-link and disassociate themselves from the remaining BDS-supporting groups, like Human Rights Watch and New Israel Fund.
